We firmly believe that every instructor has something new to bring to our students, wether its a different way of teaching a concept, a different experience with how you learned to do something, or just a different background in diving. We love the diverse crew that comes to assist at Deep Week and believe that everyone benefits from being in a place where education is in the forefront of what we do.

What will I do as an assistant instructor?

  • Facilitating and coaching one open water session per day during Deep Week (7 sessions total)

  • Facilitating and coaching 2 open water sessions for 1 of the teaching days during Deep Week (only if needed)

  • Coaching students in the confined water sessions during Deep Week

  • Assisting the lead instructors to maximise the education experience

  • Attending and assisting your Wave Head during Wave Theory (you will NOT be the one teaching the course theory to students!)

  • Setting up, running and clean up for the Ninja Warrior Course 

  • Acting as a dive guide during the fun diving activities of Deep Week

  • Assisting Deep Week Management as needed

Compensation

For the outlined work schedule above, all assistants receive the following:

  • You may attend all workshops run by world class divers free of charge

  • Free use of boats and dive locations during fun dive time

  • Participate in all fun activities and festivities during Deep Week!

    Additionally, we have the following compensation packages available

For this payment option, you receive 700aud cash.

Please note this option is only available to Molchanovs certified instructors AND if you have been to at least one Deep Week as an instructor in the past (of any agency.)

Additionally, please note that paid positions are limited and may not be available based on region or attendance.

In Kind

For this payment option, you receive:

  • An online remote or in person crossover to the Molchanovs system for free, depending on location and availability

  • One month of one-on-one coaching offered through the Freediving Family for free. This one month coaching session must be used within one year of this event and is redeemable through the Freediving Family website.

  • An invitation to an in person or online workshop led by Adam Stern on How To Build Your Freediving Business, depending on location and availability.

Credit

For this payment option, you receive:

  • 900aud store credit on the Freediving Family website. This credit can be put towards completing your Wave 4 course at a future Deep Week, One on One Coaching, our Online Training Community or other future services offered by Freediving Family (some restrictions may apply)

  • An invitation to an in person or online workshop led by Adam Stern on How To Build Your Freediving Business, depending on location and availability.

Requirements

  • Valid instructor certification (any agency)

  • Valid first aid and CPR certification

  • Valid professional indemnity insurance for at least 5,000,000AUD

  • Be in good standing with Deep Week and the Freediving Family

  • Bring a positive vibe and be ready to have fun, learn and dive!

FAQs

  • Absolutely! One of the thing we love about Deep Week is that it brings together instructors of all backgrounds and experiences for the benefit of Deep Weekers. They get to be taught the same content by numerous instructors and in different ways, ensuring that they get many opportunities to work through their sticking points and learn in the way that works best for them. See the above options of what is available!

  • We have three different options available for compensation depending on your experience, your history with Deep Week and the availability of positions for each event. Take a look above to note what they are and if you have any questions, please use the form below when letting us know about your interest in assisting what you are interested in doing.

  • Nope! Accommodation, travel and food is all your responsibility to cover. Occasionally we are able to get a discount for accommodations or make an exception to this, but generally we do not provide any financial assistance.

  • You absolutely can! If you have completed your Wave 3 certification with Molchanovs (including having an active CPR certification) you are able to assist on a buoy during Deep Week. These positions are rare but if you would like to join us in this capacity before attending one of our Deep Week Instructor Courses, you are more than welcome to use the form below to send us a message and we can go over your options!

  • Ninja Warrior is our underwater obstacle course that we have generally every Deep Week. You will be expected to be in the water helping to set up buoys and do a variety of little things to make the obstacle course happen (tie hula hoops to lines, move bottom weights, etc.) During the course, you may be asked to man a buoy, direct students, or announce times. Finally, we always need help taking everything down after everyone has gone! All in all, its a fantastic time and more details will be provided at Deep Week!

    As for the Fun Diving, this is different in every location. Some times it is going to ship wrecks. Other times we head to beautiful areas of coral to dive. Generally though, you will be asked to just be in the water, floating and diving around, modeling good safetying behavior and diving with a buddy and ensuring that those around you are as well. Basically though, we just have fun and keep an eye out for each other!

  • Wave Heads are the instructors that teach the course content during the first few days of Deep Week and are also responsible for managing their assistant instructors on a day to day basis. They are the point of contact for many Deep Weekers and one of their main jobs is to “Bring The Vibe!”
