Escape to the southern shores of Japan this November for a one-of-a-kind freediving and cultural expedition in Okinawa. As the island shifts into its gentle autumn rhythm, you’ll experience Okinawa at its most peaceful—warm waters, mild weather, and fewer crowds, making it the perfect time to connect - exploring the seas, the sights, and yourself!
Each day, we’ll dive into the island’s clear, inviting seas—exploring vibrant coral reefs and tranquil blue depths. Outside the water, we’ll immerse ourselves in the heart of Okinawan life—savoring traditional meals, exploring local markets, and hiking through lush subtropical landscapes painted in the soft colors of fall. In the evenings, we’ll relax in healing onsen spas, letting warm mineral waters restore our bodies after a full day of adventure.
Due to boat capacity, this intimate journey is limited to just 10 adventurous souls. Whether you're coming to dive, explore, or simply enjoy a slower pace surrounded by good company and beautiful scenery, this Okinawan escape is a chance to experience one of Japan’s most enchating islands.
This trip is open to everyone and anyone who has been to one our events before!

Freediving Family Retreats are our way of bringing the friends and family we meet at Deep Weeks together once again to use what we learned to have fun and dive together in an incredible place somewhere in the world!
Each family reunion is a close knit and unique experience for those that join. Space is very limited at these events which opens us up to one of a kind opportunities to explore the world with friends.

As this has been a highly anticipated event, we decided to splash out for this reunion and find a place that invites rest and space for all of us to reflect on our adventures at the end of the day.
During our stay, we’ll be calling the beautiful local home—a modern, stylish sanctuary nestled in the heart of Naha. We will share two big family rooms between the group, offering shared rooms but individual beds, to create a cozy atmosphere to swap stories and get to know each other. One room features a private sauna and Jacuzzi that we’ll all pile into each night, offering the perfect retreat after a full day of diving and exploring. Centrally located and surrounded by local charm, it’s the ideal blend of luxury and local culture for our Freediving Family Reunion.

📅 Nov 24 – Arrival in Naha, Okinawa
• This will be a relaxed day as everyone arrives in Naha
• We’ll acquaint ourselves with the city by exploring the famous Kokusai Dori Walking Street
• Unwind from our travels in the sauna and jacuzzi at our accommodation!!
🌊 Nov 25 – Dive and onsen!
• 8:30am - This will be our first day in the water as we hop on a boat to explore the dive sites around Kamiyama Island
• 12:30pm - Return to harbour
• End the evening at the Ryukin Hot Springs onsen before a family dinner!
🐠 Nov 26 – Dive, castle visit and exploration!
• 8:30am depart for another day exploring Okinawa underwater!
• 12:30pm - Return to harbour
• Visit Shuri Castle, UNESCO World Heritage Site
• Explore Makishi Market for family dinner
🎋 Nov 27 – Nature walk and exploration
• We’ll take short taxi ride across the island for a beautiful hike in Okinawa’s lush subtropical forests
• On the way home we’ll stop at Apeman Spa Natural Hotspring for another Onsen experience!
🐚 Nov 28 – Dive and museum
• We’ll spend the morning diving then in the afternoon we’ll explore the Okinawa Prefectural Museum & Art Museum where we’ll learn about the traditional sea-faring practices of Japan.
• Last family dinner, unwind in the sauna and jacuzzi at our accommodation and reflect on the trip!

Unfortunately you have to have joined us for a Deep Week or one of our multi day events in Australia in the past to be able to join us at a Freediving Family Reunion.
We do this because, not to brag, but theres something special about our events that you just need to see to fully experience! But don’t worry, we will be running more and more reunions as we move ahead so you will have plenty of opportunities to join us in amazing places around the world.

During our Family Reunions, we don’t offer certifications. You must be at least Wave 1 certified or the equivalent to be able to attend these events!

Due to the unique nature of the events and how each one is individually planned, we are only able to transfer your deposit to a future Freediving Family Reunion and only if you have requested the deposit to be moved no closer than 8 weeks before the event begins.
In the event that you need to cancel your spot between 6 weeks and 2 weeks of the event starting, we do charge a fee equal to the event deposit. Any balance remaining can be applied to a future Family Reunion.
If you need to cancel within 2 weeks of the event starting, we cannot move your balance to a future event.We cannot issue refunds.

This accommodation is going to be epic! We have access to a private sauna and jacuzzi as well as a deck for us to all hang out in!
The rooms will be shared, there will be between 4-6 in each room.

You should plan to bring your own gear. There is a local operator on island you can rent from if need be. Lead will be provided but weight belts will not so please do bring your own!

The water in Okinawa this time of year is a bit on the cooler side - 24 degrees. A 3mm is recommended unless you get cold - if this is you then bring a 5mm!

You can pay an initial deposit to secure your spot and 8 weeks before the reunion begins the remaining balance is due.
With no deposit, there is no booking confirmed.
As soon as you book in, you will receive an email with a button that says “Pay Remainder Balance”. We ask that if you are booking on within 8 weeks of the event starting, you continue on to pay the remaining balance as soon as possible!
We ask the full payment to be covered eight weeks before the start of the event.
You can also choose to pay in full upon checkout.

You can pay with a credit or debit card on our website. The payment is securely captured through Stripe. PayPal transfer or crypto are also options. If you would like to pay with PayPal or crypto, please contact Marissa at deepweek@freedivingfamily.com and she can assist you.

Nothing during the retreat is compulsory.
If you feel like you need some time to chill and relax by skipping a dive session, then by all means do so!
As Brandon always says, this is your vacation and you get to decide how much or little you want to do!
If you do decide to skip an activity, you are not entitled to a partial refund on the event.

The price includes all costs - including accommodation, boat fees, entry fees, and transportation - from when you arrive in Okinawa until you leave. It does not include any flight travel or transport from other airports, meals or gear hire (except lead). To ensure your booking is confirmed, please provide a $790 AUD non-refundable deposit.
