Deep Week Maldives

What is Deep Week?

Deep Week is a week long freediving course set in some of the world’s top freediving destinations. It brings the best freedivers, instructors and experts to one spectacular location for 7 full days of diving, workshops, yoga, meditation and community building!

Most accurately described as an underwater freediving festival, it’s the best place to make life-long freediving friends while getting a premier freediving education. There is truly no other event like it in the world, it’s a one-of-a-kind experience.

The training at Deep Week is suitable for all levels. We get all skill levels joining the event from absolute beginners, to freediving instructors wanting to up-skill, all the way up to freediving competitors seeking to improve their knowledge and technique.

Beyond the Postcards: The Real Maldives

When most people picture the Maldives, they imagine overwater bungalows, luxury resorts, and eye-watering price tags. But let us start by telling you, that’s not what we’re here to show you.

This isn't a curated tourist version of the Maldives - it's the real thing. Our local operator was born and raised in Addu, giving us access to an authentic and deeply personal experience both above and below the surface.

Marissa personally scoped out this location herself and couldn’t believe how varied and vibrant the diving was. From shore diving through a protected marine reserve to exploring vibrant outer reefs just minutes from shore, the diving is as accessible as it is spectacular.

From the moment we stepped in the water we were greeted by schools of trevally, barracuda, sea-turtles, all set over a stunning backdrop of thriving corals.

But while the diving alone makes this location so special, it’s the local island that really make this Deep Week unique. You'll quickly become a familiar face around town, chatting with locals, and waving to neighbors on your way to the marina.

This is the Maldives stripped back to what makes it truly magical: warm people, incredible diving, rich local culture, and the feeling that you've discovered something most travelers never will.

  • The Workshops

Each Deep Week is different and offers interesting and unique workshops but there are always a few classics as well. Brandon, along with our other guest instructors, will be leading a variety of interesting and fun workshops every day.

They are a great opportunity to learn from some of the best divers and freediving educators in the world and one of the things that makes Deep Week such an amazing and unique experience.

If you aren’t feeling any of the workshops on the day, no worries! Everything at Deep Week is optional!

  • Yoga Bali Blue Earth Village

During Deep Week, we will dive every day except Wednesday which is rest day.

We also hold sunrise yoga and sunset meditation each day.

Nothing at the event is compulsory. You’re welcome to all the activities and free to do as much or as little as you like.

Our special guest

One of the highlights of every Deep Week is the opportunity to learn from a special guest. Whether it's a professional athlete, record holder, or influential educator in the freediving world, they'll spend the week diving alongside us, leading workshops, sharing their experiences, and contributing to the unique learning environment that makes Deep Week so special.

We're still finalizing our special guest for this event, but trust us—you'll want to stay tuned for the announcement.

There is a manta cleaning station just a 20 minute boat ride from our line-diving location, which we will have the opportunity to experience during Deep Week!

Additionally we’ll be running our Conservation & Mantas Expedition right after Deep Week! To be released soon!

The Venue

We have 3 main spaces for the event (as this part of the Maldives doesn’t have one big resort hotel!) The event spaces are: Abuharee Grand, Lagoon Lodge, and Zingel Cafe (which are all a few hundred meters from each other). Between these three spots is where we will host wave theory, workshops, yoga, meditation and most of the event activities! Both Lagoon Lodge and Abuharee have offered a 20% discount on rooms for Deep Week students. The discount codes are shared in your confirmation email!

You are welcome to book to stay wherever you like but we recommend staying as close as possible to the main event locations! Accommodation is not included in the cost of the event and it is your responsibility to book your own accommodation.

There are two dive spots - one that is accessible by shore and get’s up to 30m which is where Wave 1 and 2 will dive! To access it, we will take one of the free bikes or cart shuttles through a nature preserve. The pictures you see here are literally from the dive spot!

The second dive spot is on the outer reef of the island and just a 10 minute boat ride from the marina, which is less than a 10 minute walk from the hotels we’ve recommended.

Getting to Addu

Getting to Addu is easy! Most international travelers will first arrive in Malé, the capital of the Maldives. From there, a short domestic flight will take you south to Addu Atoll, the southernmost atoll in the country. The journey is surprisingly straightforward, with regular daily flights connecting Addu to Malé.

We recommend arriving the day before the event (March 12th) as the Friday is when we have registration and a welcome meeting. And depart no early than Sun, Mar 21st, as we have an end of week party on the night of the 20th!

Respecting The Local Culture

The Maldives is a predominantly Muslim country, and while Addu is accustomed to visitors, modest dress (shoulders and thighs covers covered) is expected when walking through town and visiting local businesses. Swimwear is perfectly acceptable on the boats, but you should be covered when moving through public spaces.

This also means that this will be an alcohol free event!!

By respecting local customs and traditions, we not only help preserve the character of the island, but also open the door to richer and more rewarding experiences throughout the week.
